PM Modi Highlights India’s Role at 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine in New Delhi, emphasizing India’s leadership in promoting traditional medicine and holistic health globally. The summit brought together ministers, experts, and delegates from around the world to discuss innovation, research, and partnerships in traditional healthcare systems.

In his address, PM Modi highlighted India’s achievement in establishing the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, calling it a platform that has expanded its influence both locally and globally. He noted that the summit facilitated meaningful dialogue between countries, opening avenues for joint research, knowledge sharing, and regulatory frameworks for safe and reliable traditional medicine.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of yoga as an integral part of traditional medicine, recognizing awardees who have contributed significantly to its global promotion. He highlighted initiatives such as the Traditional Medicine Global Library, which will centralize scientific data and policy documents to make evidence-based knowledge accessible worldwide.

PM Modi spoke about the significance of balancing modern technology with traditional practices, noting the potential of AI, digital tools, and innovative wellness infrastructure to transform healthcare. He emphasized that traditional medicine is not limited to wellness but can play a critical role in serious health challenges, citing India’s work with Ashwagandha and integrative cancer care as examples.

The summit also marked the inauguration of WHO’s South-East Asia Regional Office in Delhi and the launch of collaborative efforts with countries like Japan and BIMSTEC members to strengthen research, regulation, and capacity building in traditional medicine.

PM Modi concluded by calling for global collaboration to enhance trust, safety, and reach of traditional medicine, noting that the summit outcomes, including the Delhi Declaration, will serve as a roadmap for future initiatives in the sector.

The three-day summit showcased India’s commitment to positioning traditional medicine at the forefront of global health innovation, combining heritage with modern science to address health challenges worldwide.
