Odisha seeks PMO nod for venue change

Odisha Govt Seeks PMO Nod to Shift PM Modi’s Sept 27 Rally Venue Amid Rain Forecast

The Odisha government has requested the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to change the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled public meeting on September 27 from Berhampur to Jharsuguda, citing a heavy rainfall forecast.

State Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Sunday that while the original venue in Berhampur has already been prepared, the looming weather conditions have compelled the administration to look for alternatives.

“We have decided Jharsuguda as the alternative venue for the PM’s meeting and accordingly sought permission from the PMO,” Pujari told reporters.

The minister added that safety of the public and smooth conduct of the event remain the government’s priority, and shifting the programme will ensure that weather disruptions do not affect the rally.

If approved, the Jharsuguda event will mark Prime Minister Modi’s major public outreach in western Odisha ahead of the upcoming elections.
