Odisha Labour Minister Orders Help Desks for Issuing Labour Cards
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Labour Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia has directed officials to establish dedicated help desks for registering labourers and issuing labour cards, ensuring that unorganized workers can access vital government welfare schemes.
During a surprise visit to the Nayapalli Labour Haat, Khuntia interacted directly with labourers and assessed the implementation of various Labour Department welfare initiatives. The Minister expressed concern upon learning that many workers still do not possess labour cards, leaving them unable to avail themselves of key financial benefits.
“Without proper registration, workers miss out on essential assistance, including education support, marriage and maternity aid, as well as death and funeral benefits,” Khuntia said.
He instructed labour officers to accept applications without delay, process them swiftly, and take prompt action to address workers’ grievances. Emphasizing a people-first approach, he called for a proactive and empathetic attitude from all officials involved in labour welfare.
Later, Khuntia visited the Multipurpose Workers’ Shelter in Dumduma, where he received several suggestions from workers aimed at improving living and working conditions. He directed departmental staff to act immediately on the feedback.
The Minister’s visit underlines the state government’s commitment to strengthening support for unorganized sector workers and ensuring timely delivery of social welfare services.
