Odisha Hikes Village Guards’ Monthly Allowance

Odisha govt hikes monthly allowance for village guards

The Odisha government on Thursday announced a hike in the monthly allowance for ‘Grama Rakhis’ (village guards), raising it to Rs 2,500 from the existing Rs 1,800, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.

An official statement said the decision aims to improve the welfare and motivation of village guards, who play a crucial role in maintaining law and order in rural areas.

In addition to the financial enhancement, the state government has directed all Grama Rakhis to report weekly to the police stations under whose jurisdiction they serve. The move is intended to ensure greater accountability and strengthen coordination between village guards and law enforcement agencies.

Officials said the new reporting व्यवस्था will help in better monitoring of local law and order situations, quicker flow of information and more effective policing at the grassroots level.

The revised allowance will come into effect immediately, benefiting thousands of Grama Rakhis working across the state.
