Jal Shakti Minister Launches Sanitation Survey

Union Jal Shakti Minister Launches Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2025 to Boost Rural Sanitation

In a significant move to bolster rural sanitation efforts across India, Union Minister of Jal Shakti, C R Patil, on Thursday launched Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2025, a nationwide survey aimed at assessing and enhancing cleanliness in rural areas.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), is designed to evaluate the status of sanitation, encourage healthy competition among states and districts, and promote sustainable practices under the overarching Swachh Bharat Mission.

At the launch event in New Delhi, Minister Patil emphasized the guiding principle of “measuring to manage”, highlighting that regular assessments are crucial for the effective implementation of flagship government programmes. “Sanitation is not a one-time goal, but a continuous journey. We must monitor, adapt, and innovate constantly to maintain and improve our progress,” he said.

The Minister urged all states and Union Territories to actively participate in the survey by sharing innovative models and best practices, fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge exchange and performance improvement.

Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2025 will engage with citizens, evaluate public infrastructure, and assess the implementation of cleanliness initiatives, with a special focus on behavior change and community involvement.

The launch of SSG 2025 marks the next phase in India’s commitment to achieving clean and sustainable rural communities, reinforcing the nation’s resolve towards universal sanitation and public health.
