Odisha Government Renames Biju Patnaik Sports Award as Odisha Rajya Krida Samman

The newly elected BJP government in Odisha has announced the renaming of the Biju Patnaik Sports Award to ‘Odisha Rajya Krida Samman’. This change comes as part of the administration’s effort to refresh and revitalize the state’s recognition of sports talent.
On Friday, the Odisha Sports and Youth Services Department issued new guidelines for the ‘Rajya Krida Samman’. The award will be presented annually across eight categories, subject to the availability of suitable candidates. Despite the renaming, the cash rewards associated with the awards remain unchanged.
As per the new guidelines, the lifetime achievement award for promoting sports will carry a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh. For outstanding performance in sports, athletes will receive Rs 2 lakh, while excellence in coaching will be recognized with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
The Odisha Rajya Krida Samman aims to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of sports in the state. The award categories encompass a wide range of achievements, ensuring that both athletes and coaches who have shown exceptional dedication and performance are duly recognized.
The renaming of the award has sparked discussions among the sports community and the public. Many view it as a strategic move by the BJP government to mark its influence and direction in the state’s sports policy.
However, the core intention remains clear: to celebrate and incentivize the remarkable talents and hard work of those who contribute to the sports landscape in Odisha. The government is optimistic that this rebranding will inspire more athletes and coaches to strive for excellence, further boosting the state’s reputation in the national sports arena.
The first presentation of the Odisha Rajya Krida Samman under its new name is eagerly anticipated, with many looking forward to the recognition and encouragement it will provide to the sporting fraternity in Odisha.
