Mixed Fortunes for Indian Golfers at Paris Olympics
The Indian duo of Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar experienced contrasting fortunes on the opening day of the Olympic golf competition at the Par-71 Le Golf National course in Paris. While Sharma displayed moments of brilliance, Bhullar faced a challenging start.
Sharma, making his Olympic debut, impressed with an eagle on the par-five third hole, propelling him to three-under through the front nine. However, his momentum faltered on the back nine, resulting in a one-under 70, placing him tied for 29th.
Bhullar, on the other hand, encountered a tumultuous round, highlighted by a quadruple bogey. He finished with a four-over 75, leaving him tied for 56th in the 60-player field.
Persistent rain delays disrupted the day’s play, adding to the challenges faced by the golfers. Despite the setbacks, Sharma’s performance offers a glimmer of hope for the Indian contingent. Both players will look to improve their positions in the upcoming rounds.
