Kanu Behl says Agra denied shows

Kanu Behl Says His Critically Acclaimed Film Agra Isn’t Getting Theatre Shows
Filmmaker Kanu Behl on Friday said his latest feature film Agra, which released in theatres the same day, is being denied adequate shows, alleging that multiplex chains prioritise big-budget films over independent cinema.
Behl shared a detailed note on social media, expressing frustration over what he described as an “unfair” exhibition system. “Small films don’t fit into multiplex chain programming,” he wrote, urging audiences to demand screenings of Agra at their local theatres.
Co-written by Behl and Atika Chohan, Agra examines sexual dynamics within a family and the psychological fractures that emerge within shrinking urban spaces. The film has received strong critical acclaim on the festival circuit.
Behl said that despite positive reviews and audience interest, theatres are reluctant to allocate shows, highlighting a broader challenge faced by smaller films in India’s exhibition landscape.
The filmmaker appealed to viewers to support independent cinema by asking multiplexes to schedule shows for Agra, adding that audience pressure can make a difference.
