Indian Peacekeepers Offer Free Veterinary Services in South Sudan

Indian veterinarians serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have extended crucial veterinary care to livestock owners in the Kodok area of Upper Nile. The initiative, aimed at supporting local communities, saw doctors treating approximately 1,494 animals for various ailments such as parasitic infections, diarrhoea, anaemia, pneumonia, and tick infestations.

Livestock is integral to the economic well-being of communities in South Sudan, yet many animal breeders lack access to adequate veterinary services. The UNMISS mission statement highlighted the significant impact of these interventions in empowering local communities economically through enhanced livestock health and productivity.
