Indian Coast Guard Rescues Critically-Ill Fisherman off Kerala Coast
In a dramatic rescue operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) swiftly responded to a distress call and rescued a critically-ill fisherman from the Indian Fishing Boat Jazeera, approximately 40 nautical miles off Beypore, Kerala, on May 7, 2024. The fisherman had encountered a near-drowning incident after falling into the sea, resulting in a deterioration of his health due to excess water in his lungs.
Upon receiving the distress call from the IFB, the ICG promptly mobilized its Advanced Light Helicopter, accompanied by a medical team from Kochi, as well as Aryaman & C-404 ships. Despite the challenging conditions, the ICG assets successfully located the IFB and airlifted the patient to Kochi for urgent medical attention.
The coordinated efforts of the Indian Coast Guard exemplify their commitment to maritime safety and saving lives at sea, in alignment with their motto ‘Vayam Rakshama’. This timely intervention underscores the critical role played by the ICG in ensuring the safety and well-being of fishermen and mariners navigating the waters off the Kerala coast.
