India successfully test-fires two Pralay missiles off Odisha coast
India on Wednesday successfully conducted the test-firing of two Pralay short-range surface-to-surface missiles in quick succession off the coast of Odisha, marking a key step towards their induction into the armed forces.
The tests were carried out as part of the user evaluation trials, officials said, and demonstrated the missile’s reliability and operational readiness. Both missiles met all mission objectives, validating critical parameters and performance.
Pralay is an indigenously developed conventional missile system with a payload capacity of 500 to 1,000 kg and a strike range between 150 km and 500 km. It is capable of carrying multiple types of conventional warheads, giving it flexibility to engage a variety of targets.
The missile is equipped with a state-of-the-art navigation system that ensures high precision and accuracy, enhancing its effectiveness against high-value targets. Developed to strengthen India’s conventional deterrence capabilities, Pralay is expected to significantly augment the strike power of the armed forces once inducted.
The successful trials underline India’s growing indigenous missile development capabilities and reinforce the country’s focus on self-reliance in defence technology.
