India Set to Defend Title at Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024

Indian Women’s Hockey Team Gears Up for Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024

Indian Women’s Hockey Team, under the leadership of newly appointed Captain Salima Tete, is ready to defend their title at the Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Rajgir 2024. This historic tournament, the first international hockey event in Bihar, will be held at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium from 11 to 20 November.

The competition features six nations, including Paris Olympics silver medallists China, along with Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand. India will open their campaign against Malaysia on 11 November at 4:45 PM IST.

Strong Leadership and High Spirits

Salima Tete, who takes on the captaincy for the first time, expressed her excitement ahead of the tournament. “This is the first time I will be leading the team in a major international tournament, and I am proud to have this responsibility. Our focus is on teamwork, and we are prepared to deliver our best. This tournament will also serve as crucial preparation for our mission to qualify for the next Olympics,” Tete said.

Vice-Captain Navneet Kaur will support Tete as India looks to build on its impressive record against Malaysia. In their recent encounters, India defeated Malaysia 5-0 in the Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023 and 6-0 in the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.

Road to the Semi-Finals

After their opening match against Malaysia, India will face Korea on 12 November, followed by Thailand on 14 November. Their toughest challenges will come against China on 16 November and Japan on 17 November. The top four teams will advance to the Semi-Finals on 19 November, with the Final scheduled for 20 November.

Focus on Mission LA28

Chief Coach Harendra Singh emphasized the significance of this tournament in India’s long-term plans. “The team’s body language has evolved, and we’re fully aware of our roles and responsibilities. The Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy is a stepping stone towards ‘Mission LA28,’ and we are eager to show our progress,” Singh said.

This tournament marks India’s first Asian competition under Singh, who took charge earlier this year.
