IMD issues heavy rainfall warning Odisha

IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Eight Odisha Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha on Monday and issued alerts for eight districts, while cautioning fishermen against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions.

The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre placed Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts under an ‘Orange Warning’ (be prepared) for August 25, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.

A ‘Yellow Warning’ (be aware) was also issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Cuttack districts, where heavy showers are expected.

Officials said that continuous downpours may lead to waterlogging in urban areas and worsen the flood-like situation in parts of northern Odisha already affected by overflowing rivers.

Authorities have asked district administrations to remain on alert, keep rescue teams ready, and monitor vulnerable low-lying areas.
