Gujarat Congress Urges Rollback of Steep Fee Hike in Government Medical Colleges
The Congress party in Gujarat has strongly opposed the recent fee hike in government-run medical colleges, urging the state government to reconsider its decision. The fee hike, which affects 13 medical colleges under the Gujarat Medical Research and Education Society (GMERS), has seen an increase ranging from 67% to 88%.
Shaktisinh Gohil, Gujarat Congress president, expressed dismay over the sudden and significant fee hike, labeling it as unacceptable. Addressing reporters in Ahmedabad, Gohil emphasized the impact of such a drastic increase on students and their families, particularly amidst the economic challenges faced by many due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The state government’s decision to raise the fees overnight in GMERS medical colleges is unjustified and burdensome,” Gohil stated, highlighting the party’s stance on prioritizing accessible education and affordability for students pursuing medical education.
The demand for a rollback of the fee hike underscores the Congress party’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of students and ensuring equitable access to quality education. Gohil urged the state government to reconsider its decision and explore alternative solutions that do not impose undue financial strain on aspiring medical professionals and their families.
The issue has sparked debates and concerns among students, parents, and educational stakeholders across Gujarat, prompting calls for transparency and consultation in decision-making processes related to educational policies and fee structures.
