Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called on India’s leather industry to scale up production with a focus on sustainability and to expand its global exports. Speaking at the National Export Excellence Awards 2023-24, organized by the Council for Leather Exports (CLE), Goyal emphasized the importance of achieving zero pollution in production processes through the use of proper treatment plants.

“With economies of scale, India’s competitiveness can outpace the rest of the world,” the minister remarked, highlighting the domestic demand as a driver for achieving these economies.

Goyal urged the industry to leverage India’s growing market and adopt practices that align with environmental conservation, positioning the sector as a leader in global exports while maintaining sustainability at its core.
