Governor stresses education for Viksit Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 14: Hari Babu Kambhampati on Thursday stressed that education and knowledge creation are the most crucial pillars for building a developed and future-ready Odisha, asserting that the vision of Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat can only be realised through a strong knowledge-based society.

Addressing the Education Eminence Conclave 2026 organised by News18 Odia in Bhubaneswar, the Governor said quality education, innovation and skilled human resources are essential for shaping a progressive and self-reliant state.

Describing education as the foundation of nation-building, Kambhampati said modern societies are driven not merely by natural resources, but by the strength of their knowledge systems, creativity and intellectual capital.

“If we truly aspire to build a developed Odisha, our greatest investment must be in education and knowledge creation,” he said.

The Governor said education transforms individuals into enlightened, responsible and productive citizens while promoting innovation, democratic values and social harmony. It also helps reduce poverty, bridge social inequalities and equip youth with critical thinking, creativity and confidence, he added.

Highlighting Odisha’s progress through education-led development, Kambhampati praised the state government for prioritising the education sector and implementing the National Education Policy 2020 comprehensively.

He said the focus on mother tongue-based learning, digital empowerment, multidisciplinary education and skill development reflects a visionary approach towards preparing future generations.

The Governor also highlighted flagship initiatives such as Panchasakha Sikhya Setu, Godabarisha Mishra Adarsha Prathamika Vidyalaya and Madho Singh Haath Kharcha, stating that these programmes are strengthening school education and ensuring greater inclusion among tribal and economically weaker sections.

He added that institutions like the World Skill Center are preparing Odisha’s youth to lead in emerging sectors of the global economy.

Calling for collaborative efforts, Kambhampati urged universities, schools, research institutions and policymakers to work together in building an ecosystem that nurtures innovation, advances research and aligns education with societal needs.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for “economic self-defence,” the Governor said economic resilience and self-reliance are essential for safeguarding the nation’s long-term prosperity and strategic interests.

He said public participation and responsible consumption could significantly strengthen the country’s economy.

“Saving fuel, promoting indigenous products, encouraging natural farming and reducing edible oil consumption are not merely acts of conservation; they are vital steps towards strengthening and safeguarding the nation,” he said.

The Governor appealed to citizens from all sections of society to join the national mission with responsibility and patriotism.
