Goods Train Derails Near Chimidipalli Station

Iron Ore-Laden Goods Train Derails Near Chimidipalli on KK Line

Bhubaneswar, May 28 : In a major disruption to freight operations, 25 wagons of a goods train carrying iron ore derailed near Chimidipalli on the Kottavalasa–Kirandul (KK) line in the Araku–Kottavalasa section on Wednesday. The affected stretch falls under the jurisdiction of the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR).

East Coast Railway officials confirmed that the derailment occurred on a key freight corridor and that no casualties have been reported. The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be determined.

Senior officials from ECoR rushed to the site soon after the incident to assess the situation and initiate restoration work. A relief train was dispatched immediately to assist in recovery and clearance operations.

While the KK line primarily caters to goods transport, some passenger services between Visakhapatnam and Kirandul have been affected. Several trains have been diverted via Vizianagaram and Rayagada to ensure minimal disruption to passenger movement.

“Resource mobilization is in full swing to ensure swift restoration of the line,” an ECoR spokesperson said, adding that all necessary equipment and personnel have been deployed.

Efforts are underway to clear the tracks and resume normal operations at the earliest. An inquiry into the incident has also been initiated.
