ECoR GM Inspects Key Rail Infrastructure Projects in Western Odisha
Bhubaneswar, April 26 : East Coast Railway (ECoR) General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal on Saturday conducted an extensive inspection of major rail infrastructure and traffic facility projects across the Sambalpur–Jharsuguda Railway Section in Western Odisha, underscoring ECoR’s commitment to strengthening regional connectivity and industrial growth.
The inspection tour included critical stops at Jharsuguda Road, Brundamal, Lapanga, and Sarla stations. Funkwal, accompanied by Divisional Railway Manager of Sambalpur Division Subash C. Chaudhary and other senior officials, conducted a thorough review of several key ongoing projects and industrial railway sidings.
Among the major projects assessed were the BPSL Siding at Lapanga, developments at Jharsuguda Road Station, the Brundamal–Jharsuguda Flyover, MAVB Siding at Brundamal, Brundamal Yard, and the newly commissioned Freight Examination Depot at Sarla Station.
A highlight of the visit was the inspection of the new Freight Train Examination and Routine Overhauling (ROH) Facility at Sarla Station. Designed to handle 90–100 train examinations and 100 wagon ROHs per month, the facility is expected to boost operational efficiency by reducing turnaround time for BTAP wagons by 30 percent. This, in turn, will enhance freight handling capacity, improve safety standards, and support the industrial demands of the region, particularly for steel, aluminum, and coal sectors.
The General Manager emphasized that this new infrastructure would play a crucial role in driving economic activity, fostering job creation, and supporting the revenue growth of both the railway and the regional industries it serves.
During the inspection, Funkwal also reiterated the importance of coordinated efforts with stakeholders and industries to optimize railway operations. He highlighted the need for continuous strengthening of safety measures across stations and yards and urged further improvements to passenger amenities, including better waiting areas, upgraded lighting, drinking water facilities, and enhanced signage to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for travelers.
The visit reflects ECoR’s proactive approach toward modernizing railway infrastructure, boosting freight efficiency, and contributing to the national economy through enhanced connectivity and operational excellence.
