Depression Over Bay of Bengal Triggers Heavy Rainfall Across Odisha

Depression-Induced Rainfall Disrupts Life Across Most Parts of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Widespread rainfall lashed most parts of Odisha on Saturday as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported.

In the past 24 hours, 26 out of the state’s 30 districts experienced significant rainfall. Ranpur in Nayagarh district recorded the highest rainfall at 108.4 mm, followed by Begunia (84 mm), and Pipili, Jatani, Khurda, and Naugon (75 mm each).

The IMD has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall in several districts, including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Ganjam, and Gajapati, during the day. The weather system is expected to cause moderate to heavy showers, raising concerns about waterlogging and disruptions in low-lying areas.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain alert as the weather condition persists. The state authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have urged people to follow safety guidelines during this period of heavy rainfall.
