PM Modi Reviews Flood Situation in Punjab, Announces Rs. 1,600 Crore Assistance
New Delhi, Sep 9: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Punjab on 9th September 2025 to review the damage caused by recent floods and cloudbursts, assess ongoing relief efforts, and announce additional support for affected families and infrastructure restoration.
The Prime Minister conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas and subsequently held a detailed review meeting in Gurdaspur with officials and elected representatives. During the meeting, PM Modi evaluated relief measures, rehabilitation plans, and the overall impact of the calamity.
In a major announcement, the Prime Minister declared financial assistance of Rs. 1,600 crore for Punjab, over and above the Rs. 12,000 crore already allocated to the state. Additional support will include the advance release of the second instalment of the SDRF and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
Addressing the multifaceted needs of the region, PM Modi outlined plans to rebuild homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, restore damaged national highways, reconstruct schools, provide relief through the PMNRF, and distribute mini kits for livestock. Special focus will also be given to farmers affected by damaged or silted bore pumps, with support extended under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana and solar-powered micro-irrigation initiatives.
Government schools affected by the floods will receive financial assistance under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, while water harvesting and recharge structures will be repaired and expanded under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari program to ensure long-term water sustainability.
Prime Minister Modi expressed his condolences to families of the deceased and announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh to next of kin and Rs. 50,000 for those seriously injured. Comprehensive support under the PM CARES for Children scheme will be extended to children orphaned due to the floods and landslides.
PM Modi also met with affected families, offering solace and pledging the government’s full support. He commended the efforts of the NDRF, SDRF, Army, and other emergency personnel for their immediate relief and rescue operations.
The Union Government has dispatched Inter-Ministerial Central teams to assess the extent of damage, and further assistance will be considered based on their detailed reports. Prime Minister Modi assured that the Central Government will continue working closely with the state to restore infrastructure and support the affected population.
