Bengali indie film releases after week-long dispute

Bengali Indie Film ‘The Academy of Fine Arts’ Finally Released After Week-Long Impasse
After a week of uncertainty and stalled plans, the independent Bengali film ‘The Academy of Fine Arts’ finally hit theatres on Friday. Directed by SRFTI graduate Jayabrata Das, the film had originally been slated for release on November 14.
Its release was halted after the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI) raised objections. The federation alleged that one of the producers had outstanding payments due to technicians from an earlier project and that no federation-affiliated technicians were hired for the film’s production, either for indoor or outdoor shoots.
The deadlock led to a week-long delay, but with the issues now resolved, the film opened to audiences as planned on Friday. The release marks a significant outcome for the independent Bengali film circuit, which often grapples with procedural and institutional challenges.
