Bahuda port to transform Odisha’s maritime future

Bahuda Deep-Water Port to Make Odisha Maritime Hub: CM Majhi

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday said the proposed deep-water port at Bahuda in Ganjam district and the National Shipbuilding Cluster in Kendrapara will transform the state into a hub of industrial and maritime excellence.

Highlighting the state’s growing role in India’s maritime economy, Majhi said the projects would not only boost trade but also create significant employment opportunities.

According to officials, the Paradip Port Authority (PPA), Odisha Maritime Board (OMB), and Sagarmala Finance Corporation have signed an MoU for developing a 150 million tonne per annum (mtpa) capacity Bahuda satellite port at a cost of ₹21,500 crore.

In addition, the PPA and OMB inked another MoU to set up a world-class shipbuilding cluster on the banks of the Mahanadi in Kendrapara district with an estimated investment of ₹24,700 crore.

“These mega projects will unlock Odisha’s maritime potential and position it as a centre of excellence in shipbuilding and port-led development,” Majhi said.
