Aluminium Sector Hit By Gas Shortage

Aluminium extrusion sector hit by LPG, PNG shortage
The Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India has sought urgent government intervention as the industry faces a severe shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and piped natural gas (PNG) amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.
In a recent communication to the government, the association said the escalating conflict in the region has significantly disrupted the supply of these critical fuels, which are essential for key manufacturing processes such as melting, heating and ageing in aluminium extrusion units.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, ALEMA has urged authorities to roll out immediate relief measures, including interest rate cuts and loan moratoriums, to help the sector cope with rising operational challenges.
The industry body warned that prolonged shortages could impact production capacity, increase costs, and disrupt supply chains, affecting downstream industries dependent on aluminium products.
The appeal underscores growing concerns among manufacturers as global geopolitical tensions continue to impact energy supplies and industrial operations in India.
