Odisha Observes ‘Rasagola Dibasa’ Coinciding with End of Rath Yatra

Odisha celebrated ‘Rasagola Dibasa’ on Friday, coinciding with the ‘Niladri Bije’ rituals of Lord Jagannath, which mark the conclusion of the annual Rath Yatra. This special day underscores the cultural and traditional significance of the Rasagola, a beloved sweet dish, for the people of Odisha.
The observance of ‘Rasagola Dibasa’ is rooted in tradition, as it is believed that Lord Jagannath offers Rasagolas to His consort, Maa Laxmi, on this day to appease her anger. According to mythology, Goddess Laxmi was upset with Lord Jagannath for not including her in the Rath Yatra procession, explained Bhaskar Mishra, a researcher in Shree Jagannath Culture.
The celebration highlights the integral role that Rasagola plays in Odia culture and cuisine. Across the state, people indulge in and share this sweet treat, paying homage to its historical and cultural importance. The day also serves as a reminder of Odisha’s rich culinary heritage and the deep-seated traditions associated with the Jagannath Temple and its rituals.
The festivities of ‘Rasagola Dibasa’ add a unique flavor to the end of the Rath Yatra, bringing joy and sweetness to the hearts of the devotees and the people of Odisha.
