Intellectuals’ Forum Protests Against NEET Irregularities and Legal Code Changes in Kolkata

In a show of dissent, a collective of intellectuals named ‘Desh Banchao Ganamanch’ staged a day-long protest in Kolkata on Monday, denouncing alleged irregularities in the NEET and NET-UG exams under the current BJP-led government at the Centre.
Comprising a diverse group including singers, actors, journalists, political commentators, columnists, and social activists, the forum voiced concerns over what they perceive as systemic issues in the conduct of national-level exams. They criticized the administration for what they described as unfair practices affecting students across the country.
Furthermore, the intellectuals also expressed opposition to the proposed replacement of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) with the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This proposed legal change has sparked controversy and raised questions about its implications on the existing legal framework.
The protest in Kolkata highlighted the growing discontent among intellectuals and activists regarding educational and legal reforms under the current government. Participants emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and fairness in educational assessments like NEET and NET-UG, crucial for students aspiring to pursue higher education in India.
The ‘Desh Banchao Ganamanch’ protest underscored the forum’s commitment to defending democratic principles and advocating for reforms that prioritize justice, equity, and accountability in governance and education. The collective’s efforts aim to draw attention to pressing issues impacting society and call for constructive dialogue and corrective measures from authorities.
