State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is set to commence production from the Naini coal mine in Odisha shortly, as announced by the coal ministry on Friday.

The Naini coal mine, with a production capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum, faced delays due to the pending handover of forest land. This was resolved following the receipt of Stage-II forest clearance in October 2022.

Allocated to SCCL in 2015, the Naini block is intended for the captive utilization of coal in the public sector enterprise’s thermal power plant. The start of operations marks a significant step in boosting coal production and supporting energy needs.
