Khurda MLA-Elect Prashant Jagdev Granted Interim Bail in EVM Damage Case

In a significant development, the Khurda district court granted interim bail to Prashant Jagdev, the MLA-elect from Khurda, who had been detained following his arrest for allegedly damaging an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during the voting process on May 25.

Jagdev, who has been lodged in jail since his arrest, has been granted bail for a period of three days, spanning June 9 to June 11. He has been ordered to surrender before the court on June 12.

Jagdev’s lawyer, Prabhat Dash, informed the media, “We had sought bail for a month, considering his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for June 10, and the death of his nephew. However, the court granted him bail for only three days.”

The court’s decision comes amidst the backdrop of ongoing legal proceedings against Jagdev, whose alleged actions during the election process have sparked considerable controversy. The brief reprieve will allow him to participate in his swearing-in ceremony as an MLA on June 10.

As the situation continues to unfold, the political landscape in Khurda remains tense, with supporters and opponents of Jagdev closely watching the developments. The temporary bail will provide Jagdev a brief period of freedom, but the legal challenges he faces are far from over.
