Kalahandi Telemedicine Facility Benefits Remote Villages

Telemedicine Facility Launched In Odisha’s Kalahandi To Serve Remote Villages
BHUBANESWAR, May 7: Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling on Thursday inaugurated a 24×7 telemedicine facility at a hospital in Kalahandi district aimed at improving healthcare access for people living in remote tribal and rural regions.
The facility has been established at Vedanta Lanjigarh Hospital and is expected to benefit residents of nearly 70 remote villages in the district.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mahaling said the initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening healthcare delivery in underserved areas where access to specialist medical services remains limited.
The telemedicine centre will enable patients in distant villages to consult doctors and specialists through digital platforms without travelling long distances to urban hospitals. Officials said the service is expected to reduce delays in diagnosis and treatment while ensuring continuous medical support for rural communities.
The minister highlighted the importance of technology-driven healthcare solutions in improving public health infrastructure in Odisha’s tribal belts and hard-to-reach regions.
Local authorities and healthcare officials said the facility would particularly help elderly patients, women, and people requiring regular medical consultations by making healthcare more accessible and affordable.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise healthcare services and bridge gaps in medical accessibility across remote parts of Odisha.
