Kashyap backs Dug Dug India release

Indie satire “Dug Dug” gets India release backing

Festival favourite indie film “Dug Dug”, directed by Ritwik Pareek, is set for its theatrical release across India on May 8, backed by prominent filmmakers including Anurag Kashyap, Nikkhil Advani, Vikramaditya Motwane and Vasan Bala as executive producers.

The comedy-drama, which has garnered acclaim on the international festival circuit, explores themes of blind faith and mass hysteria through a darkly humorous lens.

Inspired by true events, “Dug Dug” is set in a small village where an unusual belief takes hold after a man’s death. His motorbike is soon regarded as a divine object capable of granting wishes—provided devotees offer prayers and alcohol. As word spreads and reported “miracles” increase, the phenomenon spirals into a full-fledged, commercialised religion.

The film’s unconventional premise and satirical take on religious frenzy have drawn attention at festivals, with the backing of established names expected to help it reach a wider audience in India.

With its theatrical release scheduled for May 8, “Dug Dug” now looks to translate its festival buzz into box office success.
