India EU Boost EV Charging Cooperation

India, EU Deepen EV Charging Tech Cooperation
India and the European Union have strengthened their collaboration on clean mobility with the successful conclusion of the second India-EU Workshop on Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Technologies, held from March 15 to 17, 2026 at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy.
Organised under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), the workshop focused on advancing cooperation in green and clean energy technologies, particularly in developing harmonised and future-ready EV charging ecosystems.
The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and technical experts from both sides to discuss key aspects of EV infrastructure, including standardisation, interoperability, and emerging technologies. Deliberations covered advanced topics such as megawatt charging systems for heavy-duty vehicles, bidirectional charging and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration, as well as wireless charging solutions.
Participants also reviewed progress in policy frameworks, international standards, and communication protocols like the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), aimed at ensuring seamless and efficient EV charging networks across regions.
A major highlight of the workshop was the visit to JRC’s advanced testing facilities, where delegates explored cutting-edge laboratories dedicated to EV interoperability, smart grids, and e-mobility systems. These facilities support data-driven research and help in building reliable and secure charging infrastructure.
Officials from India and the European Commission emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in research, innovation, and standard-setting to accelerate the global transition to sustainable mobility.
The workshop concluded with a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to develop interoperable, secure, and resilient EV charging systems, paving the way for stronger industrial partnerships and a cleaner transportation future.
