ITDC Launches Tribal Homestay Training Programme

ITDC Launches Training for Tribal Homestay Owners
The India Tourism Development Corporation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, has launched a capacity-building programme for tribal homestay owners to promote community-based tourism and enhance livelihood opportunities.
The inaugural session was held at Hotel Samrat in New Delhi, with participation from 40 trainees from Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Gujarat.
The initiative aims to improve hospitality skills, raise service standards and strengthen visitor experiences in tribal regions through structured training conducted by IHM Ashok under ITDC.
A key highlight of the event was the release of the “Tribal Homestay – Operation & Development Manual 2026,” a multilingual guide designed to support the professional management and expansion of homestays across tribal areas.
Officials said the programme aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly and experiential tourism, offering travellers opportunities to explore less crowded, nature-rich destinations while generating sustainable income for local communities.
Speaking on the occasion, officials emphasised that the initiative will help bridge the gap in accommodation infrastructure while empowering tribal households with new livelihood avenues.
The programme also aims to train around 1,500 participants in phases, creating a network of trainers to expand the model nationwide.
The collaboration reflects the government’s focus on inclusive development, sustainable tourism and preservation of tribal culture through community-driven initiatives.
