Centre Expands Nationwide Renewable Energy Awareness Drive
The government is ramping up efforts to promote renewable energy awareness across the country through a wide range of campaigns, outreach programmes and institutional collaborations, Parliament was informed on Tuesday.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik said awareness initiatives are being carried out using multiple platforms including digital media, television, radio, print and outdoor advertising.
The campaigns are being implemented through agencies such as the Central Bureau of Communication, National Film Development Corporation, Doordarshan and All India Radio, along with state nodal agencies and educational institutions.
The government has also provided funds to state nodal agencies and discoms in 27 states and Union Territories during FY 2025-26 to conduct information, education and communication (IEC) activities, including campaigns in rural and remote areas. These initiatives include hoardings, radio jingles, exhibitions, melas and mobile awareness drives such as “Surya Rath”.
To strengthen skill development and knowledge dissemination, reputed institutions like IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee, along with Industrial Training Institutes and other national bodies, are being involved through specialised programmes and curriculum support.
Key initiatives include the Jal Urjamitra programme by IIT Roorkee, skill development for the green hydrogen sector, and postgraduate programmes in renewable energy and sustainable development in collaboration with leading institutions.
Officials said the multi-pronged approach aims to build awareness, enhance skills and accelerate adoption of renewable energy technologies across the country.
