Bombay HC restrains Mane over remarks

Bombay HC restrains actor over remarks on Palash Muchhal

The Bombay High Court has restrained actor-producer Vidnyan Mane from making any defamatory statements against music composer Palash Muchhal, observing that his recent remarks were prima facie insinuating and per se defamatory.

In an order dated February 11, a bench of Justice Milind Jadhav directed Mane to refrain from publishing or repeating any statements that could harm Muchhal’s reputation. The court noted that the comments made by Mane in a recent interview pertained to an alleged incident that occurred a day before Muchhal’s scheduled wedding to Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, which was reportedly called off.

The bench observed that the nature of the remarks appeared to cast aspersions and were capable of damaging the composer’s public image. The court held that, at this stage, the statements were “prima facie insinuating and per se defamatory,” warranting interim protection.

Muchhal had approached the High Court seeking relief against what he described as baseless and defamatory allegations made publicly by Mane. The plea argued that the statements had caused irreparable harm to his personal and professional reputation.
