Vice-President calls for lifelong learning at MGR Institute convocation
Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday said the role of youth is critical in building a Viksit Bharat and emphasised the importance of continuous learning in the age of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies.
Addressing the 34th Convocation Ceremony of Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute here as the Chief Guest, the Vice-President congratulated the graduating students and said that convocation marks the beginning of a new phase of life with greater responsibilities and opportunities. Extending New Year greetings, he expressed confidence that the graduates would contribute positively to society through professional competence, compassion and commitment.
Recalling Tamil Nadu’s historic role as a centre of knowledge and maritime trade, Shri Radhakrishnan said that merchants from the region once carried India’s ideas, ethics and culture across the world, reflecting the country’s civilisational openness and engagement with learning and exchange.
Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Vice-President said achieving the goal requires active participation from every citizen, especially the youth. He urged students to contribute meaningfully to nation-building and collective progress.
Highlighting rapid technological transformation, he said Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies are reshaping all sectors, making continuous upskilling essential. He called upon students to adopt a lifelong learning mindset and remain open to learning beyond their core disciplines.
The Vice-President also stressed the importance of value-based education, noting that academic excellence must be anchored in ethics, integrity and social responsibility. Advising students on life beyond campus, he said success and failure are integral parts of life and should be faced with balance, resilience and mental strength.
He cautioned against shortcuts and unhealthy comparisons, encouraging graduates to set clear goals, progress steadily and recognise their unique strengths. Concluding his address, Shri Radhakrishnan urged the students to lead lives of purpose and service, contributing to both individual excellence and national development.
