Indian Railways Adds Coaches Amid Cancellations

Indian Railways Deploys 116 Extra Coaches on 37 Trains Amid Flight Cancellations

Indian Railways has announced the deployment of 116 additional coaches across 37 trains to accommodate the surge in passenger demand following widespread flight cancellations. These augmentations, effective from 6 December 2025, aim to ensure smooth travel and adequate accommodation across the country.

Southern Railway leads with enhancements on 18 trains, adding Chair Car and Sleeper Class coaches on high-demand routes. Northern Railway has augmented eight trains with 3AC and Chair Car coaches to ease travel along heavily trafficked northern corridors.

Western Railway has added 3AC and 2AC coaches to four trains connecting western regions to the national capital. East Central Railway has strengthened the Rajendra Nagar–New Delhi service with extra 2AC coaches across five trips between 6–10 December. East Coast Railway augmented Bhubaneswar–New Delhi services with additional 2AC coaches to improve Odisha-capital connectivity.

In the east, Eastern Railway added Sleeper Class coaches on three key trains over six trips on 7–8 December, while Northeast Frontier Railway has enhanced capacity on two important trains with 3AC and Sleeper coaches from 6–13 December, ensuring uninterrupted travel in the Northeast.

In addition to coach augmentations, four special trains will operate to further support passengers:

  • Gorakhpur–Anand Vihar Terminal Special (05591/05592): Four trips from 7–9 December
  • New Delhi–Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440): 6 December
  • New Delhi–Mumbai Central Superfast Special (04002/04001): 6–7 December
  • Hazrat Nizamuddin–Thiruvananthapuram Superfast Special (04080): One-way on 6 December

These measures highlight Indian Railways’ commitment to ensuring timely and comfortable travel for passengers during periods of heightened demand.
