Governor Advocates Coffee Expansion in Koraput

Odisha Governor Calls for Expansion of Coffee Cultivation in Koraput

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati has urged the Coffee Board and the district administration to prepare comprehensive plans for expanding coffee plantations in Koraput district.

Speaking with stakeholders of coffee cultivation on the first day of his four-day tour to Koraput and Malkangiri districts, the Governor emphasized the importance of providing farmers with easier access to coffee cultivation. He noted that such measures would encourage wider participation and enhance production in the region.

Dr. Kambhampati highlighted that since Koraput is a Scheduled Area, farmers often face challenges in securing suitable land for cultivation due to restrictions on land ownership and transfer. To address this, he recommended conducting a detailed survey to identify potential farmland, particularly general category private land, to ensure that interested cultivators can gain rightful access.

“The right measures will not only boost coffee production but also strengthen farmer participation and livelihoods in the region,” the Governor said.

The Governor’s visit marks a significant step toward promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the economic prospects of farmers in Odisha’s tribal districts.
