Odisha to Deploy Integrated Control Room, AI Cameras for Puri Rath Yatra 2025

Bhubaneswar, June 16 : In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Odisha Police will set up an Integrated Control Room and install Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered cameras across key areas of Puri town to ensure robust surveillance and security during the upcoming Rath Yatra, scheduled to begin on June 27.

Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania announced on Sunday that the Integrated Control Room will be established at the Town Police Station, and AI cameras will be strategically positioned at locations like Uttara Chhak, Puri-Konark Road, and other vital intersections to monitor crowd and traffic movement.

In view of potential terror threats, a joint patrolling mechanism has been activated involving the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and Odisha Police’s Maritime Police Station along the coastal belt. Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have been deployed on ships, with drones and anti-drone systems in place to address any aerial security concerns.

The DGP also confirmed the presence of Anti-Terrorist Squads and guard vehicles to enhance ground security. Stressing a smooth and incident-free celebration, he directed senior police officers to stay vigilant throughout the festival period.

With lakhs of devotees expected to visit Puri for the Naba Joubana Darshan, Rath Yatra, Bahuda Yatra, Suna Besha, and other key rituals, the state has ramped up security arrangements considerably.

A special mobile application has also been developed to assist visitors with real-time traffic updates, parking availability, route guidance, and other transit-related information.

During a high-level review meeting, the DGP issued instructions for a statewide crime control drive with inspections at hotels, lodges, temples, bus stands, railway stations, and dharamshalas. Beach patrols, temporary police outposts, and coordination with Railway Protection Force (RPF) are also being prioritized.

Other measures include VIP helipads, designated traffic zones, barricading, special accommodations for police personnel, and a dedicated public assistance system to handle any emergencies or grievances quickly.

Senior officials, including Director (Intelligence) R.P. Koche, ADGP (Modernization) Soumendra Priyadarshi, ADGP (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, and ADGP (Communication) Dayal Gangwar, attended the comprehensive meeting.

DGP Khurania appealed for public cooperation to ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of the world-famous Rath Yatra.
