Tusshar Kapoor: “No Guarantee a Horror Comedy Will Work at Box Office”

Actor Tusshar Kapoor, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming horror comedy Kapkapiii, believes that success at the box office comes down to storytelling, not just the genre.

While horror comedies have carved a strong niche in recent years, with hits like Stree 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and Munjya dominating the box office in 2024, Kapoor maintains that there’s no fixed formula for a film’s success.

“There’s no guarantee that a horror comedy will work just because the genre is trending,” said Kapoor. “It’s the story that ultimately matters. A film should offer a novel experience to the audience—whether it’s horror, comedy, or a mix of both.”

Kapkapiii marks Kapoor’s return to the big screen in a lead role. While details of the film are still under wraps, it promises to blend spooky thrills with laugh-out-loud moments—a formula that has struck gold in recent Bollywood releases.

Despite the genre’s popularity, Kapoor emphasized that audiences are becoming more discerning and expect fresh narratives. “If you repeat what’s already been done, it won’t excite viewers. Innovation is key,” he added.

As anticipation builds for Kapkapiii, Kapoor remains cautiously optimistic. “We’ve done our best to create something unique. Now it’s up to the audience,” he said.

The film is set to release later this year.
