Odisha Plans Statewide Adventure Tourism Push

Odisha Unveils Major Push for Adventure Tourism Across All Districts

Bhubaneswar, May 20 — In a significant move to boost its tourism sector, the Odisha government has announced a comprehensive plan to transform the state’s natural landscapes into major adventure tourism destinations. The initiative was officially outlined during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, where the Odisha Adventure Tourism Guidelines–2025 were finalized.

Under the plan, all 30 districts of Odisha will be mapped for their adventure tourism potential, with development projects tailored to local geography and unique natural features. Among the first initiatives to be rolled out are rafting in Satkosia and hot air balloon rides over Hirakud, with similar experiences being explored for other parts of the state.

Chief Minister Majhi emphasized that this tourism push falls under the state’s broader development vision, themed “Think India, Think Odisha.” He said the goal is to make Odisha the first destination that comes to mind when planning an adventure-filled trip in India.

“Tourism will be a cornerstone of Odisha’s growth story. We are aiming to build an ecosystem that not only attracts tourists but also empowers our youth and generates employment,” Majhi said.

Key Highlights of the Odisha Adventure Tourism Guidelines–2025:

  • Comprehensive district-wise mapping for adventure activities across water, land, and air.
  • Training and certification programs for local youth in various adventure disciplines.
  • Private sector participation encouraged via the newly launched ‘Go Adventure’ portal.
  • Incentives for investors as per the Odisha Tourism Policy–2022 to attract tourism-related infrastructure and service development.

Officials said that these measures will not only enhance Odisha’s profile on the national and global tourism map but also create significant job opportunities, especially for the youth in rural and tribal areas.

The government is also focusing on sustainable and safe practices by ensuring that all activities are carried out in compliance with national and international adventure tourism standards.

The initiative marks a significant stride in Odisha’s efforts to diversify its tourism offerings, moving beyond heritage and religious tourism to more experience-driven, high-engagement travel options.

With its rich natural beauty—from forests and rivers to mountains and coastlines—Odisha is poised to become a premier adventure tourism hub in India.
