Army Soldier Killed in Encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur

An Indian Army soldier was killed on Thursday during an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The encounter broke out as part of a cordon and search operation launched by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, following specific intelligence about the presence of militants in the region. The operation, conducted in the Basantgarh area, was aimed at neutralizing the terrorists and ensuring the safety of local civilians.

According to officials, the operation began early in the day, and during the ensuing gunfight, the soldier sustained fatal injuries. The identity of the slain soldier has not yet been released. Further details on the encounter and the militants’ identities are awaited as the operation is ongoing.

The White Knight Corps, the Army’s operational command in the region, confirmed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched today in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur.”

The attack highlights the continuing threat posed by militants in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in remote and high-altitude areas like Udhampur. Security forces have intensified their operations in the region to ensure peace and security, with a focus on eliminating terror cells.

The Army has pledged to continue operations against militants and provide all necessary support to the family of the fallen soldier.
