Odisha Forms Panel to Study Kotia

Odisha CM Orders Committee to Assess Kotia Dispute with Andhra Pradesh
In a significant move to address the long-standing territorial dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday directed the formation of a dedicated committee to examine the prevailing situation in the disputed Kotia gram panchayat of Koraput district.
The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in Bhubaneswar. Officials confirmed that the panel will be tasked with studying ground realities in the Kotia cluster of villages, which have been at the center of a jurisdictional conflict between the two neighbouring states.
“The CM has issued the direction after the meeting on the situation in the Kotia cluster of villages over which Andhra Pradesh also makes its claim,” a senior government official stated.
The formation of the committee marks a renewed effort by the Odisha government to assert its administrative control and ensure the welfare of residents in the region, who often find themselves caught between competing claims.
The Kotia dispute, which involves over 20 villages, has persisted for decades, with both states laying claim to the area. Despite multiple interventions in the past, the issue remains unresolved, leading to confusion over governance and delivery of public services.
Officials indicated that the newly formed committee would engage with local residents, review existing development initiatives, and recommend measures to safeguard Odisha’s interests while maintaining peace and harmony in the region.
Further details about the composition of the committee and its timeline for submitting a report are expected to be announced shortly.
