Rourkela Steel Plant Signs MoU with ABB India Ltd to Drive Sustainable Steel Production

Bhubaneswar, May 21 — Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has entered into a strategic partnership with ABB India Ltd by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate digital transformation and promote sustainable steel manufacturing.

The MoU was signed on Tuesday by Biswaranjan Palai, Executive Director (Works) of RSP, and Kapil Agarwal, Senior Vice President and Local Division Manager of ABB India Ltd., in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

ABB India Ltd., renowned for its advanced industrial automation and digital solutions, will collaborate with RSP to develop cutting-edge technologies aimed at optimizing steel production. Palai expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “Combining RSP’s industry experience with ABB’s technological expertise will help us develop future-proof and sustainable steelmaking processes.”

A key focus of this collaboration is the development of Digital Twin technology for the Blast Furnace and Basic Oxygen Furnace at RSP. This technology will provide real-time monitoring and insights into furnace operations, enabling process optimization, improved product quality, enhanced asset longevity, and data-driven decision-making.

The initiative aligns with RSP’s broader vision to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) into its production and maintenance systems, marking a significant step towards digitalization and sustainable growth.

RSP aims to leverage this partnership to enhance operational efficiency, maintain global competitiveness, and ensure long-term sustainability in steel manufacturing.
