President Murmu urges students to dedicate education to nation-building at Kumaun University convocation
President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday graced the 20th convocation ceremony of Kumaun University in Nainital, Uttarakhand, and urged students to use their education not just for personal growth but also for the service of society and the nation.
Addressing the gathering, the President said education is the foundation of a nation’s development, adding that it should strengthen not only intellect and skills but also moral values and character.
“Education not only makes us self-reliant but also teaches us to be humble and to contribute to the development of society and the country,” she said, calling upon students to dedicate their learning to uplift the underprivileged.
Highlighting India’s economic progress, President Murmu noted that the country is among the fastest-growing major economies in the world, and the government’s policy initiatives are creating new opportunities for the youth. She urged higher education institutions to help students harness these opportunities through research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Commending Kumaun University’s commitment to excellence, the President emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in education and appreciated the institution’s efforts toward environmental conservation in the Himalayan region.
She also urged faculty and students to engage with nearby villages, understand local challenges, and contribute to finding practical solutions as part of their social responsibility.
Referring to India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, President Murmu said that young people, including the students of Kumaun University, will play a pivotal role in realizing this vision through their talent and dedication.
Earlier in the day, the President visited the Naina Devi Temple and offered prayers before paying respects at the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram in Kainchi Dham.
