PM Modi to Launch ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ Virtually from Puri on May 29

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually launch the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ from the sacred town of Puri on May 29, in a major push to transform Indian agriculture and bring Central Government initiatives directly to the grassroots level.

The nationwide campaign, scheduled to run from May 29 to June 12, aims to promote agricultural innovation, empower farmers, and enhance awareness about sustainable practices and technological advancements in farming.

According to official sources, the launch event will be held in the presence of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallick.

A preparatory meeting to oversee final arrangements was held in Bhubaneswar on Monday under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, with Principal Secretary Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee also attending. Dr. Padhee confirmed that all preparations for the campaign’s rollout are nearing completion.

As per the official itinerary, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will begin his visit with a darshan at the Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri, followed by participation in a ‘Tiranga Yatra’. The formal inauguration of the campaign will take place at the Birgobindapur Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Sakhigopal, where a Krishi Ratha—a mobile information and awareness vehicle—will also be flagged off.

Further events include the Union Minister’s participation in a program at the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), a Mango Festival at the Central Horticultural Experiment Station, and another event hosted by the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT).

In alignment with the campaign’s theme of sustainability and environment, the initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ will be launched, encouraging tree plantation drives across participating regions.

Dr. Padhee highlighted that large numbers of students and farmers are expected to take part in these events, making the campaign a significant step in connecting agricultural policy with grassroots action.

The ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ is seen as a comprehensive effort to modernize agriculture, boost rural livelihoods, and make India’s farming sector more resilient and future-ready.
