PCB Eyes Viv Richards as Mentor for National Team in T20 World Cup
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is actively pursuing legendary cricketer Sir Vivian Richards to serve as a mentor for the national team during the upcoming T20 World Cup, slated to be held in the Americas. Richards, who has been a mentor for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League since 2016, is being considered by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to bring his wealth of experience to the national squad.
With a significant portion of the Super Eight matches scheduled in the Caribbean, Richards’ familiarity with the conditions could prove invaluable for Pakistan. Sources within the PCB have indicated that negotiations are underway despite Richards’ prior media commitments during the World Cup.
“Sir Viv Richards is highly respected by Pakistani players, and efforts are underway to finalize his role as a mentor for the World Cup,” stated a PCB source. The role of mentorship was previously held by former Australian opener Matthew Hayden during the last two T20 World Cups, where Pakistan achieved notable successes, including reaching the semi-finals and final.
If confirmed, Richards would bring his renowned cricketing acumen and leadership to support Pakistan’s campaign in the T20 World Cup, enhancing the team’s strategic planning and player development.
