Odisha recognized for data-driven farming initiatives

Odisha to receive Rs 100 crore incentive for Digital Crop Survey

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 : The Centre has formally approved Odisha’s proposals under the Special Central Assistance (SCA), declaring the State eligible for incentives under both components of AgriStack — Rs 100 crore for the successful implementation of the Digital Crop Survey (DCS) and Rs 55.48 crore for the creation of the Farmers’ Registry (FR).

Official sources said the approval reflects Odisha’s strong compliance with national standards, timely achievement of coverage milestones and effective execution at scale. The recognition further reinforces the State’s leadership in adopting data-driven, farmer-centric digital reforms in agriculture.

The Farmers’ Registry provides an authenticated and verified database of farmers, enabling accurate identification of beneficiaries for key schemes such as PM-KISAN, CM Kisan and crop insurance. Meanwhile, the Digital Crop Survey offers geo-referenced, plot-wise information on crops sown, helping the State prepare realistic estimates of area and production, procurement planning and targeted scheme delivery.

Together, the Farmers’ Registry and Digital Crop Survey answer three critical questions — who the farmer is, where the land is and what crop is grown — forming the backbone of transparent and efficient agricultural scheme implementation.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo termed the approval a proud moment for Odisha, stating that it reflects the State’s vision of making agriculture more transparent, efficient and prosperous. He urged the Agriculture Department to leverage these digital tools to usher in a new phase of growth and sustainability in Odisha’s agrarian economy, and congratulated departmental officials, technical teams and farmers for the achievement.

Principal Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee said the AgriStack approval would revolutionise data-driven farming in the State by ensuring greater transparency, efficiency and prosperity for farmers.
