No Flood Threat, Relief Work Intensifies

No Flood Threat in Odisha; Balasore Administration Accelerates Relief Efforts
In a welcome development, the Odisha government on Friday confirmed that there is currently no flood threat in the state, as water levels in all major rivers, including the Subarnarekha in northern Odisha, have receded significantly.
The Subarnarekha and other rivers had swelled earlier this week following heavy rainfall and the release of water from Jharkhand, triggering widespread inundation in parts of Balasore district. However, with the gradual draining of floodwaters, especially in rural and low-lying areas, the overall situation has shown marked improvement.
Officials from the Balasore district administration stated that relief and restoration operations have now picked up pace. “As the situation has improved a lot with the receding of water, we have intensified relief work. Now, we can reach all places and carry out relief activities,” a senior district official said.
Teams have been deployed to distribute essential supplies including dry food, drinking water, and medical aid to the affected villagers. Special attention is being given to sanitation and health measures to prevent the outbreak of water-borne diseases in the aftermath of the flooding.
District officials also reported that roads previously submerged are now becoming accessible, allowing smoother transport of relief materials and movement of emergency personnel. Authorities have also begun assessing crop damage and losses to homes in the affected regions, with plans underway to provide appropriate compensation.
The state government continues to closely monitor the situation and is coordinating with weather and water resource departments to ensure preparedness for any further developments. Meanwhile, residents in flood-affected areas have expressed relief at the improving conditions and the timely response of local authorities.
With the immediate flood threat now behind them, the focus shifts to full recovery and rehabilitation of impacted communities.
