TPWODL Installs Rooftop Solar Plants Across 114 Offices in Western Odisha
TPWODL Solarises 114 Offices Across Western Odisha, Generates Over 8.92 Lakh Units of Clean Energy

Bhubaneswar, Aug 26: TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has strengthened its commitment to renewable energy by installing rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) plants across 114 office buildings in Western Odisha.

The rooftop solar installations have collectively generated 8,92,537 units (kWh) of clean electricity, contributing to significant energy savings for the company. The initiative has also helped avoid an estimated 732 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, underlining the environmental benefits of decentralised renewable energy generation.

By integrating rooftop solar into its own infrastructure, TPWODL is meeting a portion of its operational energy requirements through renewable sources while reducing its dependence on conventional electricity. The initiative also reflects the company's approach of demonstrating sustainable practices through its own operations.

TPWODL CEO Parveen Verma said the solarisation of the company's office infrastructure reflects its commitment to leading by example in Odisha's clean energy transition.

“By integrating renewable energy into our own operations, we are reducing our carbon footprint while demonstrating the potential of rooftop solar as a sustainable and cost-effective energy solution,” Verma said.

He added that TPWODL would continue to expand renewable energy adoption while encouraging consumers across Western Odisha to participate in India's growing clean energy movement.

As part of its next phase of expansion, TPWODL plans to install an additional 100 kW of rooftop solar capacity across its office infrastructure during the coming financial year. The proposed expansion will leverage applicable incentives and support available under various schemes of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Beyond solarising its own offices, TPWODL is also promoting rooftop solar adoption among domestic consumers across Western Odisha. Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, eligible households can avail themselves of government financial assistance for installing rooftop solar systems.

The scheme is aimed at reducing the initial investment for consumers while enabling them to generate clean energy and achieve long-term savings on electricity bills. Through its dual focus on institutional solarisation and consumer awareness, TPWODL is contributing to the wider adoption of renewable energy and supporting Odisha's transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
