Actor Ranbir Kapoor has described his role as Lord Rama in the upcoming mythological film "Ramayana" as a responsibility rather than simply another acting assignment.
In a behind-the-scenes video released by the makers on YouTube, Kapoor, director Nitesh Tiwari and co-stars Arun Govil and Sai Pallavi spoke about the actor's transformation for the role.
Kapoor said he constantly reminded himself that he had to live up to the trust and expectations of audiences who hold Lord Rama in deep reverence.
"This isn't a role, or merely an exciting role in a movie. This is a responsibility," Kapoor said in the five-minute video.
He added that his focus was not simply on becoming worthy of the character, but on being worthy of the faith that people have placed in the portrayal.
The actor's comments highlight the significance he attaches to portraying the revered figure on screen and the responsibility involved in bringing the character to a wide audience.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, "Ramayana" is an ambitious adaptation of the Indian epic, with Kapoor portraying Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi playing Sita.
