President Droupadi Murmu to Confer National Teachers Awards on 48 Teachers on September 5
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards on 48 school teachers at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 5, 2026, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
The award ceremony is organised annually by the Department of School Education & Literacy under the Ministry of Education to recognise and honour teachers who have made outstanding contributions to improving the quality of school education and enriching the lives of their students.
The selected teachers have been chosen through a rigorous, transparent and online three-stage selection process at the District, State and National levels.
This year, the 48 awardees include teachers from 27 States, seven Union Territories and six organisations of the Central Government. Of the total awardees, 26 are male and 22 are female.
Short documentaries highlighting the exemplary work and achievements of each awardee will also be showcased during the ceremony.
Recognising Excellence in Teaching
The National Teachers Awards aim to celebrate the dedication, commitment and innovative efforts of some of the country’s finest teachers. The awards recognise educators who have gone beyond their regular responsibilities to enhance learning outcomes and make a meaningful difference in the lives of students.
For the 2026 awards, eligible teachers were invited to submit online self-nominations between June 15 and July 20 through the Ministry of Education’s National Teachers Awards portal.
The award ceremony will be telecast live on Doordarshan and the SWAYAM PRABHA channels of the Ministry of Education. The programme will also be streamed live through the government webcast platform and the Ministry of Education’s social media channels.
The event will provide a national platform to acknowledge the contribution of teachers and highlight innovative practices that can inspire and strengthen school education across the country.
